Irissa Rosario, MD
Pediatrician
Hi, I’m Dr. Irissa Rosario, a board-certified pediatrician and the founder of Serenity Pediatric Wellness.
I’m a Coastal South Carolina native, and I was raised all around the world in a military family—an experience that shaped my curiosity, adaptability, and deep respect for different cultures and ways of caring for one another.
My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years, and we’re raising six children together. Outside of medicine, I find peace in walking in nature, gardening, singing, and learning languages. I’m fluent in Spanish, conversational in Brazilian Portuguese, and currently studying Haitian Creole and German.
My Roots in Integrative Healing
Integrative health practices have always been part of my life. As a woman of Gullah ancestry, I grew up with a strong awareness that healing is more than prescriptions and procedures. My grandmothers were herbalists and midwives, and they believed in the power of positive thinking, mindfulness, prayer, and community care.
My first formal introduction to integrative medicine came through a course on Indigenous herbal medical practices with the Well of Indigenous Knowledge School. I expected to learn herbs—but what I gained was something bigger: a new way of seeing health. That experience opened my mind to healing traditions and perspectives that were not included in my conventional medical education.

Why Integrative Pediatrics Matters

Over time, I came to understand something that many parents feel intuitively:
A disease-based healthcare model can be excellent at treating problems once they’re obvious—but it doesn’t always create true wellness.
Wellness is not simply the absence of symptoms. It’s something we cultivate, especially early in life. In pediatrics, that means caring about the everyday foundations that shape a child’s health trajectory—things like sleep, nutrition, stress, environment, family rhythms, and the “why” behind recurring symptoms.
Integrative pediatrics is rooted in conventional medicine but expands the tools we can use to support children safely and thoughtfully—often in ways that reduce unnecessary reliance on pharmaceuticals when appropriate.
Why I Founded Serenity Pediatric Wellness
Many traditional pediatric visits are limited to 10–15 minutes, and that’s often not enough time to truly dive deep. Parents may leave with lingering questions, and children with more complex needs may not get the space they deserve for thoughtful investigation and individualized planning.
I founded Serenity Pediatric Wellness to be a different kind of space:
- A place where we take more time
- Where we listen deeply and look for root causes
- Where care feels calm, nurturing, and organized
- And when appropriate, where I can meet your child in their home environment for a more complete understanding of what’s going on
I also built Serenity to be a supportive partner for families who already have a pediatrician but need clearer answers or more time for integrative wellness-focused care.

Our Promise to Families
